Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Recognized nationally from May 1 - May 31
Observed in April at Texas State University

May is recognized annually as Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and commemorates the history, legacy, heritage and experiences of Asian American and Pacific Islander in the United States. AAPI Heritage Month is an opportunity to highlight the historical and current contributions and achievements of Asian American and Pacific Islander immigrants, citizens, and ancestors in all aspects of American life, culture, traditions, and society. Official federal recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander American contributions began in 1977 and proclaimed in 1979 with an “Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week.” In 1990, Congress expanded the federal observation from a week to a month.
