A Brief History of Phi Alpha Delta
Founded in 1902 in South Haven, Michigan, Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) was organized by a group of Chicago are law students in response to a legal controversy over a rule affecting admission to the State Bar. The organized students believed that the law fraternity benefits should be made available to all members of the legal profession and soon expanded PAD outside the Chicago area. By 1910, the number of chapters had grown to twenty-three. At the end of WWII, PAD embarked upon its most tremendous growth and emerged as the leader among law fraternities.

Phi Alpha Delta is the world's largest law fraternity. Almost one out of every six attorneys in the United States is a member of PAD. The PAD Pre Law Program is a service project of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International. Since 1981, PAD has chartered over 100 PAD Pre Law Chapters throughout the United States.
