A
Brief History of Phi Alpha Delta
Founded in 1902 in South Haven, Michigan,
Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) was organized by a group of Chicago are law students
in response to a legal controversy over a rule affecting admission to
the State Bar. The organized students believed that the law fraternity
benefits should be made available to all members of the legal profession
and soon expanded PAD outside the Chicago area. By 1910, the number of
chapters had grown to twenty-three. At the end of WWII, PAD embarked upon
its most tremendous growth and emerged as the leader among law fraternities.
Pre Law Chapter
Phi Alpha Delta is the world's largest law fraternity. Almost one out
of every six attorneys in the United States is a member of PAD. Since
1902, Phi Alpha Delta has established 172 law school chapters at ABA approved
schools. In addition, PAD has 89 alumni chapters in major metropolitan
areas of the United States. The PAD Pre Law Program is a service project
of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International. Since 1981, PAD has
chartered over 100 PAD Pre Law Chapters throughout the United States.
Through Pre Law Programs, PAD seeks to provide advice, guidance, and assistance
to its Pre Law members to make well-reasoned decisions about pursuing
a career in law.
Phi Alpha Delta is committed to the idea that through its Pre Law program,
Pre Law members can tap into the extensive PAD network of Law students,
attorneys, and career options within the legal arena. As a PAD Pre-Law
member, the answers to your questions will come through formal as well
as informal mechanisms; however, to find your answers, you must participate
in your chapter's activities.
Through active participation in your chapter, you will learn the meaning
of fraternalism, the uniting of people with a common purpose who seek
the same goals. In addition, your chapter activities will enable you to
develop and refine your leadership and organizational skills, communication
skills, time-management techniques, and your ability to assess people
and situations. All of these skills are vitally important and can open
many doors throughout your professional career. Use your PAD Pre Law chapter
as the training ground upon which you begin to develop yourself in the
facets of professionalism.
Your PAD Pre Law membership is transferable to the other PAD Pre Law chapters
should you transfer to another school. Then, when you graduate, should
you decide to go to law school, you will have the opportunity to obtain
a lifetime membership in Phi Alpha Delta by joining a PAD Law school's
chapter at a special Pre Law member discount. |
