My name is Daniel Pacer and I am a
Senior majoring in Exercise & Sports Science with a Sports
Psychology minor. This is my third year with the Exercise &
Sports Science Club and my second year as an officer.
I joined the ESS Club because I wanted
to get to know other ESS majors as well as the HPER Department.
However, membership in the Club has proven to be far more valuable
than just a social network.
I have learned many new things about
the Health, Physical Education and Recreation fields that are not
and can not be offered in the classroom, such as professionalism,
leadership, and organization skills.
I have also realized my original
goal of meeting new and interesting people. The ESS major
houses a broad and diverse spectrum of students, and membership in
the ESS Club has given me the opportunity to learn from and form
friendships with some outstanding individuals.
The skills I have acquired from
being a part of the ESS Club have opened many other doors for me as
well. I have been able to use my experience with the Club to
secure other executive positions in chartered (university-level)
student organizations. I have also met individuals through
Club functions and events that have extended to me job offers or
graduate work opportunities after I graduate from Texas State.
I strongly urge all students
to become involved in student organizations while pursuing
undergraduate degrees as they are a means for becoming the
professional and the person that we all hoped to become after
leaving college.
One thing I always like to inform
students of when they are considering becoming a part of a student
organization is to chose one that is right for them and to give it
an honest effort. In my three years as an active member of
student organizations, I have never met anyone who did that and
regretted it. |
